The week long soccer event sponsored by Gregory Imafidon foundation led by USA based ex footballer, Gregory Imafidon is organized by the federation of Youth soccer clubs FEYSOC South South zone in Benin city Edo state.
The quarter finals which begins today will be between Dynamo FC Edo state versus Warri Fc Delta state.
Lord mark FC Delta state versus Great Avengers Fc, Delta State. Ine stars Fc, Edo state versus Focus Academy, Akwa ibom state.
Unique FC, Edo state versus Santos Fc Edo state.
All matches will take place at Emotan college sports ground Benin city, from 9am on Tuesday August 28th 2018.
The semi finals are scheduled for same venue on Wednesday August 29th 2018, with the third place and final slated for August 31st 2018, at the main bowl of the university of Benin Sports complex Ugbowo, Benin city Edo state.
Meanwhile the national President of the federation of Youth soccer clubs(feysoc) Alhaji lawal Funtua has applauded Mr Imafidon, for identifying with youth football, and called on Nigerians abroad to emulate him.
Speaking on the competition , Mr. Imafidon said ” A total of 16 teams from the 6 states are participating in this highly rated soccer tournament that has a Gold Cup for the winning state as well as numerous gifts and monetary prizes for outstanding teams and players in the tournament.Prizes to be won include Jerseys for any of the four teams that make it up to the semi- finals. Medals are equally on the way for the Gold, Silver and Bronze winning teams. Cash prizes and gifts for the best player of the tournament, best behaved team, best defender and best fair play defender, highest goal scorer, best goal keeper, best midfielder and many more”
Mr.Imafidon said all hands must be on deck to support youth soccer in the country.
He said ” I am using this opportunity to call on the state government, traditional institution, well-meaning Nigerians, and other youth sport lovers to support this tournament which aims at taking the youths off the street, engaging them meaningfully, to help reduce the rate of crime especially in Edo state.We are still accepting donations and pledges to ensure a successful tournament, make the visiting and participating states comfortable and help reduce the crime rate in Edo state”
Mr. Imafidon expresses the foundation’s appreciation to friends and supporters of the competition
He said “On behalf of the vulnerable youths in Edo state, I say thank you to all who have seen the need to make Edo state a better and a crime free state by contributing towards the success of this move.
