Uyo—GOVERNOR Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and a former military administrator of the state, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, have described the mass defection of members of the National Assembly from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and other political parties, as healthy for Nigeria.
Emmanuel, while fielding questions from newsmen at Government House, Uyo, shortly on arrival from national engagement outside the state, however, declined to comment on the issue, saying that the National Working Committee, NWC of the PDP would soon issue an official statement on the development.
His words: “That is politics, it is good for Nigeria. It is not about any individual but it is about the country. That is the only thing I can say.
“Everything that is happening today is about the party. I am just a governor in one of the PDP states and I must give that respect to my National Working Committee to speak first on the matter.”
Also reacting, a former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Nkanga, said all good minded people of Nigeria, including the true patrons of the country, should be happy that eventually there was hope to put the foundation of Nigeria right.
“I think it is a good beginning, it is a good direction that Nigeria is going. And we have been talking about it that there is need to put the foundation of this country right, to restructure. So what this is showing us is that there is hope for Nigeria because we were beginning to get worried that so many things were going wrong.
“We were pretending that everything was okay, that was really very frustrating. There are killings going on, the hardship in the country and all that. If we continue to lie to ourselves and pretend that all is well, then there is no hope that you will get those things corrected.
“So with what is happening, I think Nigerians are basically beginning to show that all was not well. So if the administration today should look at things deeply, it should know that all is not well despite what they are telling Nigerians.”
