In preparation for the Ramadan, over 300 people recently benefitted from the free medical check-up organized by Misbaudeen Islamic Center, MIC, in conjunction with the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria, IMAN, Lagos State Chapter.
Speaking at the event, the Medical Director, General Hospital Gbagada, Lagos, Dr. AbdulLateef Lawal explained that it’s necessary to be healthy and strong to partake in Ramadan.
“As part of measures to ensure Nigerians receive needed health counselling to participate fully in Ramadan as well as maintain their health generally, MIC/IMAN organized this health awareness and free health screening to enlighten the general public on the importance of good health”, he said.
According to him, the annual medical awareness was meant to prepare Muslims towards Ramadan.
Lawal added that doctors from different specialties under the coordination of IMAN, were responsible for tests and prescriptions, depending on individual’s health issue.
He urged the public to desist from all manner of harmful substances, adding that eating well, proper exercise, relaxing well and regular checkup are the best ways to live as it is everybody’s responsibility.
The Chief host, Alhaji Musbaudeen Bolarinwa, stated that the programme is for everybody, irrespective of religion or tribe. “We are not discriminating against anybody. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) is against any form of discrimination”, he said.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Misbaudeen Islamic Centre, Alhaji Qamarudeen Abdul-Lateef, said “people that are not healthy enough to fast in the month of Ramadan should feed the needy as directed by the Prophet adding ” if there is no strength for fasting and feeding the needy, one should let go, for Allah knows better than mankind. We need to get prepared for the great month and follow doctors’ advice always.”
