Welders, fitters union inaugurate exco in Delta

ASABA—The Nigerian Welders and Fitters Union, NIWELFU, Delta State chapter have been inaugurated with Comrade Ambrose Evughaye as its Pioneer State Chairman.

Other members of the executive, which was inaugurated by the union’s National Secretary, Derak Sokari include ; Fidelis Umukoro, Vice Chairman; Augustine Oghiator, PRO; Tinbowei Ebis Amos, Treasurer; Lucky Omonigho, Financial Secretary; Benedict Atiyota; and Johnway Oviricha Provost.

Speaking at the event which was graced by the National President of the union, Chief Joseph Awala Inone and Nigeria Labour Congress, Chairman, Delta State, Comr. Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, congratulated the union and assured them of requisite recognition by the state.

Okowa who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Labour and SERVICOM, Comr. Mike Okeme, said the state government will allocate land to them and also facilitate the construction of their proposed Ultra Modern Welding and Fabrication Training Institute to boost employment in the state.

Earlier, the National President of the Union, Chief Joseph Awala Inone while congratulating the newly sworn exco, called on the Federal Government to implement the provisions of the Local Content Act which intends to project and protect the interest of workers in the oil and gas sector of the economy.

He also urged the Federal government to embark on the construction of new refineries in order to meet up with the demands of the masses and end fuel scarcity.

In his good will message, Nigeria Labour Congress, Chairman, Delta state, Comr. Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, urged the exco to removed personal interest and instant gratification from their minds and stressed the need for unity.

The newly sworn NIWELFU State Chairman, Comr. Ambrose Evughaye, in his inaugural speech, said the executive under his watch will do its best to raise the standard of union.
