The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has called for census of all the communities affected by recent killings by bandits and cattle rustlers in the state with a view of assisting survivors.
Newsmen report that unknown gunmen had last Thursday attacked Birane village in Zurmi local government area of the state, killed over 30 people and injured many others.
Speaking at a press conference in Gusau on Tuesday, the state Coordinator of the Coalition, Mr Bilyaminu Badarawa described the killings of innocent people in the state as unfortunate and worrisome.
“On behalf of all Coalition of Northern Groups, I wish to extend our condolence to the families of the deceased, Zurmi emirate, Zamfara government and entire people of the state over the recent killings at Birane village in Zurmi local government area.
“It is very disturbing, despite huge amount of money spent daily by the state government to address security challenges in the state, our communities are still being attacked by the bandits.
“We are calling for immediate census of the affected communities by government to ascertain the number of people killed and bring succour to survivors,” he said.
“We are calling on Zamfara and Federal Governments as well as the international community to assist the victims,” he said.
Badarawa also called on both governments and security agencies to intensify efforts towards addressing security challenges in the state.
“Both state and federal government should review measures and find solutions to the incessant killings in the state”, he said.
