LAGOS—A Badagry magistrate’s court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Keyinde Solade, to 18 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy and stealing a motorbike, despite his arrest by the Police over theft of another motorbike.
The accused, looking unperturbed in the dock, wasted no time in pleading guilty to the two-count charge read to him before Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye.
Police prosecutor, ASP Ikem Okonkwo, informed the court that on January 3, at Seme area of Lagos, the complainant (Solomon Olanrewaju) gave the accused his motorbike but waited for seven hours, without Solade returning.
He said “Solomon traced the defendant’s girlfriend to her residence at Ijanikin and she gave him the accused’s number.
“The accused was arrested and brought to Badagry Police Station by someone whose motorbike he had stolen and was trying to do an exchange.”
The prosecutor explained that the complainant got to Badagry Police Station to report the incident, only to see the accused writing his statement for another stolen motorbike.
After listening to the plea of the accused, Magistrate Adefioye asked the accused if he had anything to say.
“I just want this court to have mercy on me,” the accused responded.
Magistrate Adefioye noted that the accused was arraigned on January 8, and the matter was adjourned for the prosecutor to present before the court facts of the matter.
