Nine tournaments have been lined up for the 2018 West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT), with the opening event being the FCT Classic which gets underway in Abuja on Thursday.

The now-annual tour is in its third season, and is a competition that runs across several golf clubs in the country.

The opening event holds at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja from Thursday to Saturday, with the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, performing the ceremonial tee-off.

About 50 professional players from eight countries, namely Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Germany, Senegal, Zambia, Zimbabwe and host country Nigeria, are expected at the event.

The FCT Classic will be followed by the Eko Challenge Cup, which will hold at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in Lagos from Wednesday to Friday.

Other clubs slated to host the 2018 WAGT include Arsenal Golf and Country Club in Owerri and the Port Harcourt Golf Club in Port Harcourt.(NAN)
