BOMADI—Deputy Majority Leader Delta State House of Assembly and lawmaker representing Bomadi Constituency, Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor, had distributed about 2,800 dual sitter desks and 150 teacher’s tables worth millions of naira to all government secondary schools in the constituency to salvage students and teachers of the carry-your-seat-from-home custom.

Most government schools in riverine Bomadi local government area of Delta State had been in poor condition, particularly in the area of furniture and despicable learning environment for a considerable length of time, with many students seen carrying stools and tables from their homes to classrooms for learning.

Distributing the 2,800 dual sitter desks and the 150 teacher’s tables to the nine government secondary schools in the constituency, weekend, Preyor noted that he keyed into the Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration’s pledge to improve on education from Primary to tertiary level, stressing that there were a lot more projects ongoing in the constituency.

He said: “Actually we have built classroom blocks but we also found out later that the students have no desks to sit on.”

We have gone round the schools and found out that most of the students were either standing up or sitting on the floor, or on ill-prepared seats and that informed my decision to provide these materials.

“There is so much ongoing in the constituency: The Bomadi Regional Water Scheme is ongoing, the General Hospital Bomadi is undergoing renovation, there is a road project that has been awarded in Bomadi town and a lot more is expected. I appeal to my constituents to be patient because we are certainly going to meet up with their expectations as a democratic government”.

Commending the lawmaker’s gesture, member Delta State Scholarship Board, Dcn Jackson Okodozor, and the principal of Ogoeze Secondary School, Mr Osakumih Azuka Benjamin, said the items would go a long way to give succour to students and teachers and would alleviate their pains in the classroom and thanked the lawmaker for the gesture.

While the Vice Principal (admin) of Esena-ebe College, Bomadi town, Mr. Ekpulu Friday, speaking on behalf of the Principal and the entire School, said “this is the first time we are seeing this and we need to appreciate him.

Most of our students sit on the floor, and it is from the floor that they look up on the chalk board and write. But all of a sudden, we see that our Honourable took up the challenge and has brought a facelift to the school. We want to say that he has done well and God should help him to do more for us”.
