The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, has stopped supplying electricity to 311 Road and adjoining roads in Festac Town, Lagos, for the past two weeks, according to residents.
A source said a major feeder cable supplying the area is damaged, and this has thrown the neighbourhood into darkness. Residents said those responsible for the damaged feeder cable should fix it as quickly as possible so that electricity supply can be restored.
In the interim, this has affected Mr. Falana Ibrahim, the marketer responsible for the area, who was seen recently trying to convince consumers to pay electricity bills even while in darkness. A source said Ibrahim had been expressing concern on the blackout as he must meet the target set for him by his employers, even when consumers are without supply.
The area has been complaining of irregular supply for a long time, even before the feeder cable was damaged. Last June, the area had no power supply for three weeks following a car accident that led to the collapse of electric poles along 31 Road. In July, when electricity supply was denied the area for over three weeks, the EKEDC electricity bills, rather than come down, were higher than previous months.
