SuperSport United missed out on the CAF Confederation Cup title after losing 2-1 on aggregate to TP Mazembe.
The visitors threatened early on and managed to carve out a couple chances in the opening 15 minutes but they failed to beat Ronwen Williams.
Eric Tinkler’s charges, meanwhile, were finding it tough to break down the Mazembe defence as Jeremy Brockie and Bradley Grobler cut frustrated figures.
SuperSport did breach Mazembe defence in the 31st minute and had the ball in the back of the net, but the strike was flagged offside.
That proved to be the final bit of goal-mouth action in the first half as the sides went into break scoreless.
With SuperSport struggling to create chances, Eric Tinkler introduced Dove Wome for the in-effective Brockie on 64 minutes.
Wome nearly made the perfect impact in the 73rd minute as the midfielder collected a cross from Grant Kekana before forcing Sylvain Gbohouo into a fine save from close range.
With just over eight minutes remaining, Mazembe were reduced to 10 men when Kabaso Chongo was given his marching orders for picking up a second yellow card.
However, SuperSport’s task was made tougher in the 89th minute when Thuso Phala was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle.
Tinkler’s charges continued to push for an equaliser but Mazembe managed to hold out to claim the draw that sealed the Cup for the visitors.
