The Deputy British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Laure Beaufils, on Wednesday urged all tiers of government and organisations in the country to invest more in education to curtail illiteracy and poverty.
Beaufils made the suggestion when she visited the office of a non-governmental organisation, MMGIVIT Charity Initiatives, in llorin.

According to her, no meaningful development could be attained in any society where majority are illiterates.
She called for more emphasis on girl-child education to allow females to be actively involved in the decision making process.
Beaufils praised the foresight of MMGIVIT Charity Initiatives for uplifting the downtrodden in Kwara and urged other organisations to emulate the NGO
The Coordinator General of the MMGIVIT Charity Initiatives, Prof. Mohammed Akanbi, said the NGO was aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor.
Akanbi, a professor of Law at the University of llorin, said the NGO had given out several household materials and clothes to thousands of less privileged persons in the society.
The Chairman of the NGO and Dean, Faculty of Law, University of llorin, Dr Kayode Adams, said that Nigeria still has a high rate of poverty, insecurity, illiteracy and poor healthcare delivery services.
Adams said the NGO was established to complement the efforts of the government in tackling problems militating against the country’s development.
