A 25-year-old sales representative, Peter Monday, was on Wednesday docked before an lkeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of his employer’s goods worth N168,750.
Monday, residing at No.1 Lawal St., Akowojo area of Lagos, is facing a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 5 at No 3, Tinubu Block in Agege area.
Eruada said that the accused was employed by the complainant, Mr Sahaib Bolaji as a sales representative, with the responsibility of delivery his goods.
According to him, the accused was asked to deliver 50,000 cartoons of Indomie Noodles, 10 cartoons of hypo and 10 cartoons of Mimi chin-chin to a customer.
He said that instead of delivering the items, the accused stole the goods and was nowhere to be found.
“All efforts to recover the items were unsuccessful, until he was arrested by the police,’’ Eruada said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Newsmen report that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offender, if found guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Gbajumo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 11 for mention.
