ENUGU—Hundreds of members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, during the weekend, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oji River local government area of Enugu state, for the purpose of November 4 council election.
The former APGA members said they joined APC because of the chairmanship candidate of the APC in Oji River local government, Chief Benson Uzoagbara, who they described as credible and focused.

Leader of APGA in Oji River, Mr. Dili Nwokeabia said it was unfortunate that for 18 years, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, imposed councilors and local government chairmen in the council but vowed they will defeat the incumbent PDP in the state.
“We have come to join hands with our colleagues in opposition in the state , APC, to chase away PDP in Oji River local government come November 4.
“No candidate in Oji River ever had the pedigree of Chief Benson Uzoagbara and we will join hands with him to produce the first ever true local government chairman in Oji River,” Nwokeabia pledged.
Addressing APC members, shortly after receiving flags and broom as symbols of his mandate, the chairmanship candidate, Uzoagbara, said that infrastructural development and education service will be pivotal in his administration.
He stated that if elected, he would embark on grassroots development mostly in the 20 wards of the local council area.
“As we are talking, some us paid money to provide seats for primary schools in Oji River and this is what a local government council could do,” he said.
