ASABA—DELTA State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor, has reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensuring quick dispensation of justice in civil and criminal cases in the state.

Mrakpor, who stated this when members of executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba, said the administration of criminal justice amendment law had been reviewed and passed by the state House of Assembly, awaiting the assent of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

He said: “With that, we can cut down trial time to four months maximum. So cases that ought not to be in court, we are getting them out of court.”

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of NUJ, Delta State Council, Mr. Michael Ikeogwu, expressed concern at the increasing number of inmates awaiting trial and delayed judgment in high profile cases.

He said the visit was aimed at synergising with the Ministry of Justice on ways of correcting the ills in the society, especially as it borders on maltreatment of journalists.
