The Federal Government has commenced a move to woo multinational technology firms to adopt the proposed ICT University before its commencement in September.

The Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, disclosed this when he hosted Cisco Networking Academy in Abuja.

The minister charged Cisco Academy to adopt one of the campuses of the proposed ICT University which would be named after them, noting; “Early indication of the role you would play and the modus operandi in the structure of governance should be detailed and in a way help government know how to collaborate with you.”

Shittu advised Cisco to formally represent their proposal to the Ministry for necessary action as he enumerated vital opportunities in the ICT Exhibition Park which Cisco system could key into, such as building good weather measurement devices, shops, database in workplaces to mention a few.

The leader of the Cisco delegation, Toyin  Olatayo, while responding said their visit to the ministry is to seek for areas Cisco can collaborate with the ministry, to make Nigeria’s Youths technology creators as opposed to being simply users of it.

Olutayo further revealed that Cisco Networking Academy is an IT Skills and Career building program for learning institutions, individuals, communities and organizations. “We hope to achieve our mission by converging digital disruptions, building Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem and education through  IoT.”

Barrister Shittu summarily said the establishment of the proposed university is in response to the call to bridge the technology gap in the country and create an enabling environment for man power development and skill acquisition.
