An attempt by two suspects to steal a Toyota Camry car parked at the Palm Shoprite Plaza by an identified customer was thwarted by security guards stationed at the gate of the shopping mall.

The suspects are Abiodun, 20, a resident of Owode Ijako, Ogun State and Nurudeen, 25, who reside at  Alagbado, Lagos, were allegedly invited by a car hire operator, Olufemi, for the operation.

It was gathered that when Abiodun and Nurudeen got to the plaza, they introduced themselves to the security guards at the gate that they were the sons of a man who parked a Toyota Camry car at the car park within the mall.

They told the guards that after their father parked the car, he develop psychiatric problems before abandoning the car and that their family sent them to come and take the car home.

The security guards, it was learned, initially believed their story, but when the suspects were asked the colour of the car they told the security guards that it was a dark ash-coloured one, while the actual colour of the parked car was Navy Blue.

When they were also asked the car’s number plates, the suspects could not give the correct answer.

The management of the shopping mall quickly reported the incident to officers at Maroko Police Division, Lekki. Officers were deployed and the suspects arrested.
