ASABA—A cross section of Deltans, weekend, described last week’s impeachment of Chief Monday Igbuya as Speaker of the state House of Assembly as the best decision ever taken by the state legislators.

Those who spoke to Vanguard include Mr Emmanuel Ogwuda, Chief Sunny Onuesoke and Chief Okiemute Amraburhere.

Ogwuda said: “This is one of the best decisions ever taken by our legislators to remove a weak and inept Speaker of the House from office.”

Onuesoke on his part, said: “If we must practise true democracy, the legislative arm must have the freedom to operate as a House for the development of the state. My advice is that the House should join forces with the executive to drive the state’s smart agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration. The House should move on under the new leadership of Chief Sheriff Oborevwori.”

Also, Amraburhere said, “We hear that Governor Okowa and other political leaders are mounting pressure on the legislators to reverse the impeachment.  Where is that done? I have never heard of such a thing before. If the lawmakers dare to reverse their decision, they will lose the confidence of Deltans.”

We are watching.”

Onuesoke however, added that the House should reconsider the three months suspension slammed on Igbuya “and recall him back as a member not as Speaker  of the House.”

Also, Amraburhere said, “We are hearing that Governor Okowa and other political leaders are mounting pressure on the legislators to reverse the impeachment.  Where is that done? I have never heard of such thing before. If the lawmakers dare to reverse their decision, they would lose the confidence of Deltans. We are watching.”

Expressing confidence that the new Speaker, Chief Sherriff Oborevwori would provide purposeful leadership for the House by making good laws that will uplift the living standards of all Deltans, Ogwuda warned the lawmakers against reversing their decision on the impeachment of Igbuya.

He said such reversal would affect the integrity of the House negatively, adding “We are watching the political manoeuvring since the successful impeachment of a weak Speaker of the House, Igbuya. I tell you that majority of Deltans are in full support of his removal. We celebrated when we heard of his impeachment. “
