Brethren, we are gradually moving to the end of the fifth month of the year, the month of Grace. In a few days, God sparing our lives, we shall be stepping into the sixth month; June. Indeed the beginning of the second half of the year.
For many of us, the last five months produced amazing testimonies.
For others, their major testimony is about to manifest. Whichever is your situation, you need not stop praying. The point being made here is that at all times, we need God’s guidance.
For a man out there, your case is that you are fed up with your job. The job isn’t giving you desired satisfaction. You feel like walking out but you are held back by the thoughts of how to feed your family. So, what is to be done? Walking out isn’t the solution as you may walk into poverty.
As a Christian, what to do is to commit that challenge to God Almighty in prayer and ask him for the way forward.
Psalm 32 vs. 7-11 contains the promise of God to teach us how to make wise decisions. Our emphasis is verse 8 “ I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye”.
The journey of life is too complex for us to take crucial decisions without consulting the Lord Jesus.
I’ll share the story of a lady who is physically challenged. She is on the wheel chair. As an employee of a company, she was well paid with regular salary, pampered by her colleagues and bosses. She was also a hardworking and dedicated worker.
She said somehow, she felt she wasn’t fulfilled and chose to work for herself.
As a Christian, she prayed and asked the Lord for direction. She got a go ahead and resigned her appointment with the company.
She then turned to weaving of craft for decorating the home. She applied and participated in an exhibition in Lagos during which she presented some of her works for sale.
Visitors to the fair included foreigners, some of them patronized her. She got talking to one of these visitors who gave her $2000 cash to assist her business. Had she not sought divine guidance, she probably would have ended up miserable.
Are you thinking of getting married? Is yours a case of what do I do next after several failed IVFs? Is your marriage under some form of threat by strange women or wicked relations?
Are you getting fed up with your jobless situation? Remember, with God all things are possible but it is for those who seek his divine guidance.
Let’s consider the word of God in John 16 vs. 13, which gives us further assurance that our God is always available to guide us.
It states, “ Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will shew you things to come”.
As a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit to show you things to come. When you know things to come, brethren, you will not make costly mistakes in life. The guidance of the Holy Spirit will make life easy and pleasant for you. Indeed, your joyful home is assured.
An American preacher, Dr. Charles Stanley, while speaking on God’s guidance said, “ We have the Holy Spirit within us. One of his responsibilities is to guide us. What steps to take? He knows the right way and knows tomorrow”.
He said when you are guided by the Spirit of God; you will not have cause to say, “ Had I known”.
The truth is that even as Christians many of us do not trust God enough to seek his guidance. We believe so much in our knowledge and the physical things that we see around us.
This is one of the reasons why a medical doctor would tell a couple that his wife could never bear children. But to the glory of God, the woman that was medically certified unfit to bear even a child is today a mother of multiple babies.
How? The couple trusted God. The husband told the wife, let’s go home, the doctor is not your creator. Both resolved to take their case to the Almighty God and he answered them. The doctor who pronounced her case hopeless heard the good news of her delivery.
This season, by the grace of the Almighty God, those who have written you off will hear good news about you in the name of Jesus.
Let’s consider another case. To the scientist what sense does it make to ask a woman believing God for children to touch the garment of her Pastor as directed by the Holy Spirit but I have seen these done in a number of churches and many women became mothers after touching the garment as directed by the Holy Spirit.
Coming nearer home, I had a relation who was afflicted with a very bad cough. It was so loud that when he coughs in his bedroom, which is in the upper deck of his duplex, a person walking on the road would hear.
He went to the hospital, had an x-ray but nothing was found yet the cough persisted.
We then invited him to the Holy Communion service preceding the monthly Holy Ghost night of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. This man, then an irregular church member, honoured the invitation. To the glory of God, he was cured. Cough vanished.
One of the doctors later told us that she was worried when medical science could not cure the cough. She said at a point she feared Tuberculosis but the x-ray did not reveal Tuberculosis.
Bear in mind that the Holy Spirit’s guidance means he will guide you on the basis of God’s will for you.
Caution- Once we have decided to be guided by the Holy Spirit, we must be ready to obey completely. Obedience must be total even when the leading of the Holy Spirit does not seem to make sense to you. You cannot afford to be rebellious or stubborn.
Psalm 32 vs 9 and 10 “ Be not as the horse , or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, let they come near unto thee. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked ; but he that trusteth in the LORD , mercy shall compass him about”.
When we ignore God’s words and counsel, we make the wrong decisions and in most cases the consequences could be fatal.
Brethren, don’t be afraid of any challenge. At times, these challenges are stepping-stones to our closeness with God. They strengthen our faith in the Lord and we surely will over come.
We must learn to trust Jesus and live according to his word. As much as possible, stay away from sins. Resolve to make Jesus your companion. Study the word, listen to him and obey completely.
Remember the popular song- Trust and Obey for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
When we trust and obey our joyful life is assured.
Stay with Jesus, he will turn your worries to testimonies.
