JALINGO—The Sultan of Sokoto Sa,ad Abubakar and former Minister for Defence General Theophirus Danjuma, retd, have called for unity and peaceful coexistence among religious faithful, ethnics and tribes in Nigeria.
They spoke yesterday at the convocation ceremony of Kwararafa University Wukari, the headquarters of Wukari Local Government area of Taraba State, to commemorate with the Aku-Uka of Wukari on his 40th years on the thrown as the King of Jukuns.
Gen. Danjuma stated that his presence in Wukari was to celebrate the Aku-Uka of Wukari Dr. Shakarau Angyu the II.
He praised the paramount ruler for his peace initiative to keep the people under the chiefdom in peace and efforts at negotiating for peace among all the tribes within the area.
Danjuma called on other traditional rulers in Nigeria to ensure lasting peace among their subjects.
On his part, the Sultan of Sokoto Sa,Ad Abubakar, called on religion and political leaders to always dialogue in times of disagreement.
According to him, traditional rulers particularly from the northern part of Nigeria were were making effort at resolving the current communal crisis between the herdsmen and Famers across Nigeria.
He noted that both the traditional and religion leaders were having sleepless nights to engage all the important organs involved in the crisis with a view to stopping crisis across the country.
According to him, the recent herdsmen/Famers in Benue, Kaduna and the other parts of the north east were worrisome and must be contained to ensure peace and development in Nigeria.
