Obiano’s aide apologises to lawmakers over allegations of abuse of office

By Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA—There was a mild but bizarre drama yesterday at the Anambra State House of Assembly when foot soldiers of Governor Willie Obiano’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe thronged the premises as early as 8am in solidarity to their boss, who was summoned for sundry offences.

Obidigwe was summoned last week to appear yesterday in the House and explain his duties as special adviser to the government on political matters as his activities were conflicting with other aides to the governor, especially the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

Obidigwe was alleged to have installed a native doctor as a traditional ruler at Nnado and also installed a town’s president general.

The allegations were brought to the House by the member representing Anambra east constituency, Mr Obinna Emenaka.

Speaking on the floor of the House, Obidigwe apologised to the lawmakers and prayed for forgiveness if he had offended the House as an institution in the cause of his duties.

“ l am very sorry for all these allegations leveled against me.I pray that as it has not been in my character to be found wanting in whatever position l had found myself, that l will continue in the same vein.”

Also speaking, Pharmacist Emenaka said having listened to the submissions of his brother, Obidigwe, he had no option than to join the house to accept his apology.

“ To err is human to forgive is divine”, he said.
