Award winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Letters as a foreign honorary member.
There are only 250 members of this august body and the only other Nigerian to be recognised by it is Wole Soyinka, our Nobel laureate, who was inducted in 1986.
The Academy was established to “foster and sustain an interest in Literature, Music, and the Fine Arts”. It dishes out over 70 awards and prizes and donates valuable items to museums.
How fitting that we should hear about the super-talented Chimamanda latest achievement – a particularly prestigious intellectual accolade – in a week that is dedicated to acknowledging the value and relevance of women!
