IBADAN—A 57-year-old man, Emmanuel Ojo, was arraigned yesterday before an Ibadan magistrate’s court for practising as a lawyer for seven years without having relevant qualification.

He and others who are still at large were accused of conspiracy and impersonation.

The alleged fake lawyer was said to have practised the profession between year 2010 and 2017 before he was arrested.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Ogunremi, the accused with others at large had practised between the year 2010 and 2017 at Mobolaji Law Chambers situated at 1, Winners Way, Basorun, Ibadan.

In the charge sheet, Ogunremi had on March 27 at the Chief Magistrate’s Court II, Iyaganku, Ibadan, impersonated a lawyer by announcing appearance as a legal counsel, holding brief in charge suit marked MI/1543c/2016, knowing same to be an act of impersonation.

As a result, the prosecutor said the accused committed an offence which contravenes Sections 516 and 484 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, Nigeria, 2000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the two charges preferred against him.

Chief Magistrate A. F. Richard then granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
