Worried by the rate of child trafficking in Imo State, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Tiwo Lekanu, said it was difficult tracking some of the child traffickers particularly those who use orphanage homes as a disguise.

As a result of this, the commissioner demanded for a comprehensive list of orphanage home operators in the state.

Lekanu stated this  after a meeting with the members of Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria, ASOHON, held in Owerri.

He asked that the group should without further delay provide a complete list of their members for easy identification.

The commissioner stated that anybody who failed to register under the association should be reported to the police for immediate action, adding that such unregistered homes would be shut down and prosecuted according to the laws.

He also went further to say that “The police has discovered that some people operate motherless babes homes without following the requirements of the law and also the process of child adoption as stated by the law has been violated by such people.
