Abuja—The Alliance of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, in Nigeria has asked the Global Prolife Alliance, GPA, and its principal promoter, Dr Phillip Njemanze to apologise to Minister of Environment Amina Mohammed, Nigerians and the United Nations for comments on modern biotechnology in agriculture.

Speaking at a conference in Abuja, the representative of the group, Edel-Quinn Agbaegbu said the GPA alleged that the recent appointment of Amina Mohammed as Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations was a payback to her for the introduction of GMO foods in Nigeria, an allegation it dismissed as falsehood and misleading to the public.

The group noted that Nigeria as a respected member of the global community is entitled to have any of its citizens appointed into such an exulted position, irrespective of gender or racial affiliation, adding that the claim by GPA that Amina’s appointment was for the purpose of reward was untenable.
