Mr Olusola Malomo, a Lagos based dietician, has advised lovers of wine and other brevages, to drink more of red wine, as its healthier and has more health benefits than white wine.
The dietician told newsmen in Lagos on Thursday that red wine contained appropriate natural sugar and nutrients to help maintain overall healthy living.
According to him, some studies have shown that red wine is high in reseratrol and cardio protective polephenols, which are considered to be cancer-fighters.
“Another distinguishing difference is that red wine possesses good nutrients that can boost brain and fight off cold.
“It also makes one slim by preventing the growth of fat cells.
“Red wine lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke; the tannins, which gives red wine its red colour , contain procyanidins which are known for protecting against heart disease.
“Also, the resveratrol in red wine also helps to remove chemicals responsible for causing blood clots, the primary cause of coronary disease.’’
The dietician said, “red wine also promotes long life; its drinkers have a 34 per cent lower mortality rate than beer or vodka drinkers.
“It is important to note that both the red and white wines contain alcohol and the prolonged consumption of either of them has been linked to many health problems,’’ he said.
Malomo, however, advised wine drinkers to drink responsibly and in moderation.
