PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State Government has constituted a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate violence related incidents during the last re-run elections and submit its report within one month.

Nyesom Wike
This is coming few days after the Inspector General of Police, Mr Idris Ibrahim, announced a probe panel to investigate similar issues around the elections
A statement by Secretary to the State Government, Mr Kenneth Kobani, said the Commission is headed by Justice Chinwendu Nwogu. Other members are Mrs Grace Akpughunum-Okwulehie, Prof. O. Okene, Sir Anthony Ozurumba, Rev. Canon Hossanna Nnaewi, Alphonso Sibi, (Chief State Counsel, Secretary) and C. B. Ekeh, (Principal State Counsel, Legal Counsel).
Meanwhile, Deputy leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Dr Dakuku Peterside, has dismissed the commission of inquiry constituted as laughable.
In a statement, yesterday, Peterside, who was governorship candidate of his party in the last governorship election, said Governor Nyesom Wike, who said his loyalists would not attend the probe panel set up by the Police, had gone ahead to constitute a similar body in the state.
He said the call by the governor on his supporters not to attend the Police panel was irresponsible.
The commission will be inaugurated today at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House, Port Harcourt and has the following terms of reference:
”Investigate the remote and immediate causes of the violence during the December 10 , 2016 rerun/supplementary elections in Rivers State.
“Identify the perpetrators of the various acts of violence and killings in the aforesaid election.
“Identify the victims of the violence including those killed.
“Identify if property was damaged and the value of any such property.
“Determine if the violence was localised to specific areas within the state or was state-wide.
“Make appropriate recommendations concerning their findings or any other recommendations as the commission may consider appropriate in the circumstance and submit its report to the Governor of Rivers State within one month.”
