Police foil kidnap of  2-yr-old

LAGOS—Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have foiled an attempt by to kidnap a two-year-old boy in Owode area of Ogun State, arresting the kingpin.

It was discovered that the prime suspect, Suleiman Seidu, 33, was responsible for several kidnap cases in Kogi, his home state.

Vanguard gathered that he contracted the service of an unidentified man to assist him abduct a two-year-old boy. But the partner was said to have confided in a friend who took him to the RRS  in Lagos State, where Seidu’s plan was exposed.

It was further gathered that a member of the RRS Decoy posed as a lady, in whose care the boy would be kept.

Police sources hinted that: “For more than two weeks, while the kidnap plan took shape, the investigator, pretending as an accomplice, was exchanging information with the prime suspect.”

The suspect assured the accomplice that he has got a motorcycle to use in kidnap and that N10 million ransom would be demanded for his release.

He boasted that the boy’s father would be able to afford it because he is a landlord and also deals in electrical appliances.

Confession

Seidu was reportedly apprehended by the RRS men on the purported day of the kidnap.

On how he intended to kidnap the toddler, Seidu said: ”I have been watching the movements of his parents for about two weeks.

“I discovered that whenever the driver is taking the boy to school, he would alight from the car to lock the gate because they don’t have a gate keeper.

“He usually took him to school between 7 and 8a.m.

“The plan was to kidnap the boy when the driver alights to close the gate and escape on a waiting bike. I had planned to keep him with me in my room and parlour apartment from where negotiation would be going on.“
