Lagos—The police, yesterday, charged a bricklayer, Friday James, before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere for allegedly fingering a six-year-old girl.
James, 56, who resides at 4r, Kosa Street, Pedero, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on unlawful carnal knowledge and fingering preferred against the him by the police.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on November 2.
He said that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl by forcing her to remove her pant and dipping his finger inside her private part.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Sections 137 and 135 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence when it was read to him.
Magistrate Martins Owumi did not grant the defendant bail as he said the court does not have jurisdiction to grant bail to the defendant.
However, he adjourned the case till February 15, 2017, for the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
