Rule of Law ‘ll impede APC’s anti-corruption efforts — Oni

By Omeiza Ajayi

Abuja—Deputy National Chairman (South) of All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr. Segun Oni, has lashed out at critics of the anti-corruption efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, saying nothing much would be achieved by strict adherence to the rule of law.

Speaking with journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, Oni said:  “If you leave this war in the hands of people (National Judicial Council) who would not be able to prosecute it, it means we give up and God forbids that we should fail.

“People who are talking about the rule of law and so on, how much have we achieved by the rule of law?  Are they saying there is no corruption?

‘’If there is corruption, what has been achieved in stopping it? Or should we now say we cannot stop it, then we should institutionalise it?

“At one stage, there must be a stop. In Ghana, (Jerry) Rawlings applied a measure. God forbids that in Nigeria here we should leave things until people get so frustrated.” It cannot continue, things cannot continue the way it is, everybody knows corrupt people, but everybody is keeping quiet; they know corrupt people.

“Don’t lawyers know corrupt judges? Don’t judges also know corrupt judges? What we are trying to do now is to prevent the alternative, which is the collapse of the whole system, people taking laws into their hands.
