Palm wine tapper murdered in Enugu community

ENUGU—An unmasked gunman Tuesday night killed a palm wine tapper, Mr John Eke at Imufu, Enugu Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Sources said that Eke was killed by a man who walked into the room where the deceased was discussing with his aged mother and shot him several times. He died before being rushed to hospital.

According to the sources, the deceased was freed about six months ago after over two years in prison custody, over the murder of the head of the community’s vigilante group, late Chukwudi Omeh and had been living in solitude since then.

However, the sources further said that late Chukwudi was also, a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, at the time of his untimely death, pointing out that some cult groups who attended his burial vowed to avenge his killing.

Eke’s lifeless body was still lying in his late father’s compound where he was murdered even as the incident was said to have been reported to the police in the area.

Agahiu described this year’s celebration as “a noble gesture by the postal service to improve, and contribute meaningfully to social economic communities of member country and the development of the world.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “serving a new society, delivering beyond your door step” to show the extent commitment of postal service in delivering their duties, Agahiu said.

He noted that the directives of the director when followed would do better to satisfy the ever increasing and rapid needs of their customers.

The Area Manager urged the society to embrace the service of NIPOST, believing that they have taken the advantages of ICT to serve them well.

“Some people thought that postal service is not delivering their services because of the use of phone and computer forgetting that P.O box, PMB are very important and forever alive as the owner of face book has P.O Box,” he points out.

“NIPOST has come to rescue the urban and rural dwellers.   Your mail will reach to your box without mistake at the appropriate time. Rural dwellers can access their fund through postal services now that the cashless policy has been implemented.

“With the deployment of ICT facilities in NIPOST, the problem of rural dwellers have been solved,” he said, adding that the service has been automated as “you can check mails, transfer money, track and trace the movement of mail sitting in your room”.

He applauded the ever remain customers that know the importance of P.O box,PMB and urged them to keep enjoying the service of NIPOST.

Addressing the media after the occasion, Agahiu called on the federal, state and local government to collaborate with them to foster quality service delivery and enjoy the support that the Central Bank will give to NIPOST for ICT facilities improvement.

He lamented on the ignorance of our people saying that some left their P.O box not knowing that someone’s admission letter, appointment letter, original company document, share holders mails, many other important mails can be in their box.

He applauded the Government of Enugu State for their tremendous support and patronage, promising to keep on with their work to get uniformed people well informed to enjoy the full benefit of NIPOST existence.
