LAGOS—A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday, sentenced a real estate agent, Femi Alabi, to three years imprisonment for defrauding 21 accommodation seekers of N6.9 million.
The trial judge, Justice Kudirat Jose sentenced Alabi after he pleaded guilty to the offences at his re-arraignment.
Alabi was re-arraigned alongside one Lateef Azeez by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The duo had entered a plea bargain agreement with the anti-graft agency, but Azeez is yet to be sentenced by the court.
In her judgment, Justice Jose convicted Alabi of the 27-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences preferred against him.
Also, a 50-year-old agent, Suleman Buhari, who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl was, yesterday, docked before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant, who resides at 50, Oja-Oba Market in Lagos Island, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual assault preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant, who resides in the same vicinity as the victim, committed the offence on October 5.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was denied bail.
Magistrate O. Ogunbowale denied the defendant bail, but asked him to approach the high court, which has the power to grant bail.
She asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward same to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice, and adjourned the case to November 9.
