BUK lecturer kidnapped in Kaduna

KANO – A frontline academic staff of Bayero University, Kano, Saminu Aliyu Kiri has been abducted by hoodlums in Kaduna.

Aliyu Kiri was said to be on his return journey back from an official assignment when yet to be identified gunmen flagged down their vehicle at Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna and subsequently abducted him.

Sources in the second generation varsity told Vanguard that Malam Kiri was a prominent member of Faculty of Computer science and Information Technology of the school.

A level 400 student, Computer science who simply identified herself as “Nino” told Vanguard that “we are scheduled to sit for his test Saturday when suddenly news had it the course facilitator, Malam Saminu Aliyu Kiri has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kaduna.”

She revealed that “from what we heard, the abductors are already in touch and were asking for a huge ransom”.

However, a text message circulated among the students by the Faculty Social Director, Shuaibu AbdulRasheed obtained by Vanguard disclosed “our colleague, Saminu Aliyu Kiri (FCSIT staff ) has been kidnapped on his way back from SIWES supervision at Birnin Gwari, Kaduna state , Pls let’s pray for his safety and immediate release.”

Sequel to the development, authorities of Bayero University are keeping sealed lips over what an insider that spoke on condition of anonymity described as too sensitive “not to add to the trauma and as well avoid triggering panic among the academics”.

When contacted, the University spokesman, Ahmad Shehu said the affected lecturer was returning from an official assignment in Shaki Oyo state when the incident happened ”

He said that the University is awared of the incident and would initiate moves to secure his freedom”
