ASABA-DELTA State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr David Ofoeyeno is dead. He died at the age of 55 after a protracted illness in Warri.
Ofoeyeno who was also the President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, hails from Koko in Warri North Local Government Area of the state.
He is survived by wife and children. Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the state has commiserated with the state council of NLC and NULGE, on the death of their Chairman, Ofoeyeno.
Also, the state chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, has expressed sadness over Ofoeyeno’s death.
The state ALGON in a statement by its Chairman, Sir Ithiako Ikpokpo, described Ofoeyeno who doubled as Chairman of NULGE in the state as a dogged fighter and committed unionist, who gave his best in the struggle to protect and advance the course of the Nigerian workers and the common man.
In a condolence message to the family, Okowa described the deceased as a respected labour leader whose support and contributions to labour movement would be missed by all. Okowa in the message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Charles Aniagwu, described Ofoeyeno as a friend.
He said, “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I mourn the demise of a friend and brother, David Ofoeyeno. Ofoeyeno, until his death, was the Chairman of NLC, Delta State council and President, NULGE, Delta State Council.”
He urged the Ofoeyeno family to see the demise as an act of God and be comforted by the fact that the deceased lived a worthy and fulfilled life.
