Imo Speaker threatens Enugu EDC over epileptic power supply

By Chidi Nkwopara

Owerri—The Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Acho Ihim, has threatened that Imolites may be forced to opt for the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, if the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, fails to improve power supply to consumers in the state.

Chief Ihim who spoke yesterday, through his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Bennett, equally applauded the judiciary for “ruling against the unfavourable price hike policy” of the distribution companies.

“I must applaud the judiciary for ruling against the unfavourable price hike policy of the electricity distribution companies, DISCOS,” Ihim said.

According to the Speaker, “the recent hike in electricity tariff by the distribution companies is not in the interest of the citizens,” stressing that it has rather aggravated people’s hardship.

“This is a very tough time for us in Nigeria. It is incumbent on particularly the EEDC management to convince their customers of its competency and preparedness to give the citizenry value for their hard-earned money,” Ihim said.

Reiterating the threat to switch over to PHEDC, the Speaker warned that the threat was real.

“The state will definitely dump EEDC if they fail to retool their organization and put the state’s economy back on stream,” Chief Ihim warned.
