PORT HARCOURT—Two Mobile Policemen, were, yesterday, killed during a gun battle with hoodlums at Ikiri area of Omoku Town in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Vanguard also learned that two other policemen, who sustained bullet wounds were rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the state.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed a building site allegedly owned by the state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Felix Obua, and opened fire on the security men guarding the place, killing the policemen.
One of the engineers, who was at the site when the bandits arrived, Mr. Uche Isiodu, narrated: “Gunmen came to the site while we were inside working and we started hearing shootings outside.
“We ran into the bush. When we came out, we heard that two Mopol had died and that the gunmen collected their guns.
“Two other Mopol had bullet wounds. The others ran into the bush with us. I ran into the bush with the engineer that is in charge of the site. I later heard that the police came and took the corpses away.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he was aware of the development, adding that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Omoku was still gathering reports on the circumstances that led to the incident.
He promised to make public any information available on the incident.
Meanwhile, the remains of the mobile police officers had been deposited at a mortuary in Omoku.
