Ado-Ekiti — THE Ekiti State Government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state were engaged in war of words over the performance of the students of the state in the just released National Examination Council, NECO, result.
While the Fayose-led administration is laying claim to the performance, the Director of Publicity of the APC, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun picked holes in the governor’s claim.
The NECO result across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), released recently indicated that Ekiti state emerged best among other states with 96.485 of its candidates that sat for the examination.
Reacting to the outcome of the result, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Lanre Ogunsuyi, contended that performance of the students of the state in the examination was a reflection of the deliberate effort of the Governor to re-awake a comatose sector ran aground by the previous APC government in the state.
His words: “We came tops with 96.2% passes in the exams, i want to congratulate the governor for bringing back on track the education fortunes of the state, when we came in 2014 Ekiti State was 34th in performance in NECO at that time the Fayemi administration had been in Government for four years and they had been in charge of running the education and they had ran it aground.”
But in its reaction, the APC spokesperson, Mr Olatunbosun said,” I won’t be surprised and it is equally expected as usual that government will make noise as usual to deceive the people, claiming the glory of what they have not done, this is not the last time that the present administration will be laying claim to the credit of what they have not done.
For example, it happened about a year aggo when a financial organisation honoured Ekiti government For preparing a people oriented Budget in 2013-2014. That credit was actually for former Governor Kayode Fayemi, because he came on board in 2014 October and implemented Fayemi’s budget.”
The Credit of good performance should be given to Fayemi and not Fayose”, Olatunbosun said.
Fayose dedicates glory to teachers
Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayose has said that the policies of government that aided the state’s performance.
Fayose, who dedicated the victory to Ekiti teachers, promised that Core Subject Allowance would be paid next month, while the Teachers Day would be marked with the giving of brand new cars to best teachers in both primary and secondary school levels.
Fayose dedicated the feat to all stakeholders in the sector, especially the teachers saying “we would have got to this level earlier than now. During my first term in office, we moved from 35 position in WAEC and NECO to eighth and seventh and we were on the verge of coming tops before I was removed from office.
We thank God that we have got to this great height now. I am assuring all that we won’t relent and we will maintain the standard. We are going to come first in WAEC as well.”
