At that age, men have lost their idealism, the stark reality of the Nigerian state stares them right in the face. I had often wondered why, and have always felt embarrassed when, in the past, I passed through Immigration at the Lagos Airport and I’m asked for ‘something’ by the grown men who manned those desks. But now that I get to spend a lot more time in Nigeria, I know why.
Abuja Housing Show: Nigerians spend 60% disposable income on house rent
Most Nigerian tenants expend 60 percent of their disposable income on house rent as a direct consequence of the huge housing deficit in the country, which is at variance with 20 to 30 percent advocated by the United Nations (UN). Participants at the recently concluded 10th edition of annual Abuja Housing Show (AHS) in Abuja, called for a holistic approach to expanding access to housing in a bid to effectively tackle the housing problem in the country. In a communiqué issued at the event, the participants noted that there is no quick fix to Nigerian housing problems.
