LAGOS—Secretary General, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, Mr John May, has said the future of Nigeria was in the youths.

In his remarks at the foundation’s Award presentation in Lagos, May pointed out that leadership was about reaching out to the youths.

He asserted that the foundation’s vision was to reach more young people in their self- development and recognise their achievements.

“You (youths) are eagles and it is now time for you to fly. I have never visited Nigeria before and I consider it a privilege being here. I love Nigeria. Today makes it 60 years that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had this idea,” May stated.

National Director of the International Award for Young People, Miss Toyin Odu, explained that the event was to recognize the achievements of 50 public secondary school students in Lagos that participated in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which operates in the country as the International Award for Young People Nigeria.

The event was attended by students from various schools in the state, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Cyril Akhanemhe, among others.
