The craze for money and the desperate need to settle personal scores occasioned by struggle for chieftaincy titles has made some traditional rulers involuntary guests of kidnappers in the forest, where they are holed up for weeks until ransoms are paid. Respect for customs and traditions have gone on sabbaticals. In recent times, Ondo State has witnessed the kidnap of a regent and a traditional ruler and this has set tongues wagging.
