Militants didn’t seize C-River LGAs- Army Commander

By Ike Uchechukwu

CALABAR— COMMANDER, 13 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Calabar, Cross River State, Gen Malik Bulama, has said that militants did not overrun Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas of the state.

Gen Buluama, who spoke to NDV on the sidelines of inter-Brigade sports competition in Calabar, said:   “I was in Bakassi and Akpabuyo local government areas that very day, and I was baffled at such reports that militants have overrun the place.  There is no iota of truth in that story and no local government is under the control of militants.“

He reassured that there was no presence of militants anywhere in the state, adding that the rumour of threat to peace by militants was just a figment of some people’s imagination.

The commander asserted: “We are appealing to well-meaning Cross-Riverians and parents to see reasons and also to talk to their wards to understand that peace is key to development of a better society that we can be proud of.”

He, however, added: “As professionals, we prepare for any eventuality; we have put a very robust strategy that will help tackle any security challenge that may confront us, we have witnessed great calm in the state and we are in synergy with other security agencies to ensure peace and security.”
