Abuja—Former Adamawa State Acting Governor, Umaru Fintiri, detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in connection with the diversion of N1.9 billion, may spend more time with his interrogators in the agency than initially thought.
Fintiri, who was taken into custody by operatives on Wednesday, is being probed for alleged abuse of office and corruption, which robbed Adamawa of huge taxpayers’ money.

The former speaker of Adamawa State, who was drafted into office to fill the gap, following the illegal impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako, had expected to be released at least on bail last night, but his hope was dashed.
Findings by Vanguard showed that the embattled politician was still being detained as at 9pm last night, with a source confirming that the operatives had not finished with him.
“We can confirm that the former acting governor is still with our operatives. It is clear that they have not finished questioning him yet,” a source at EFCC said.
Fintiri, who spent over 83 days in office, is accused of having made away with the huge sum of money, using fraudulent tactics, including two phantom road projects-Yola township road and Mararaba Garta.
According to EFCC records, while the Yola township road purportedly gulped N1 billion, the other took nearly N1.9 billion, with nothing to show for both.
