‘Allegation is distraction’
By Vincent Ujumadu
Awka—THE Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) denied yesterday that its leadership met with Governor Willie Obiano, urging the Anambra State government not to link it with acts capable of undermining the integrity of the movement and Igbo people.
A statement by MASSOB leader, Mr. Uchenna Madu described the alleged bribe allegation against MASSOB as a distraction at a time Ndigbo were still mourning the massacre of her people by security operatives during this year’s Biafra Day celebration.
The MASSOB statement, which was made available to reporters in Awka read: “The attention of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has been drawn to a destructive rumour going round in Anambra State that Governor Willie Obiano had induced MASSOB with monetary leverage to compromise its activities and the struggle for Biafra actualization.
“We want to state clearly that the reformed MASSOB can never be bought or hijacked by political elements and we cannot compromise or sabotage the struggle for emancipation and survival of our people.
“MASSOB warns the government of Anambra State to stop dragging the name of MASSOB or Biafra to the mud. We have not sent anybody or group of people to represent MASSOB in any capacity in their dealings with pro- Biafra groups and anybody or group of people who claim to represent or were sent by MASSOB in any capacity to deal with Anambra State government, is fake.
“In as much as MASSOB is willing to partner or work with other Igbo groups, state governments and individuals, it must be for the Igbo and Biafra interest and it must not compromise the ultimate goal of Ndigbo.
“MASSOB will continue to represent the genuine interest of Ndigbo with selflessness, total commitment and consistency.
“MASSOB will continue to hold Governor Obiano responsible for the murderous killings of members of pro Biafra groups in Nkpor by Nigeria security agencies”.
The movement urged Governor Obiano to hearken to the cries of the people residing at Okpoko, Obodoukwu road, Ogbuagu – Ik Onuoha Street, Amazu Road, Mgbemena street, Nwaziki street, among other areas in Onitsha, by rehabilitating roads in the area in the interest of the people.
