Lagos—The management of Lekki Gardens yesterday said none of the 35 persons killed when a building under construction collapsed on March 8, in Lekki Gardens, was its worker, even as it expressed concerns over the deaths.
Speaking on behalf of Mr. Richard Nyong, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lekki Gardens, owners of the collapsed building, Juliet Obiorah told journalists in Lagos that: “They were not our employees, whether directly or on contract basis. We do not know them. They were Beninoise. We later learned that they used the uncompleted building as shelter while it was raining on that morning.
“As a rule, we close work and barricade our sites at 4p.m. This incident happened at about 3:30am. Our security personnel called the Human Resources person, Mr. Akin Ojo, and the 13 survivors were taken to hospitals and are still going for check-ups on the company’s bill.”
