OSOGBO—Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Alhaji Nasiru Ayilara has assured all the personnels of the commission expected to participate in the Saturday Ife-Central House of Assembly bye-election of adequate security.
Ayilara, who gave this assurance at a press briefing in Osogbo yesterday also assured of adequate security of voters and electoral materials.
The Ife-Central House of Assembly State Constituency seat became vacant following the demised of Hon.Oladejo Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on December, 27, 2015.
He said due to the political nature of the council, the commission has emplaced security measures that would guarantee the safety of INEC officials and the electorates.
According to him;” We have met with all the security agencies in the state and they have assured the commission of safety of both electoral officials and the voters”.
He stated further that voting would take place in 168 polling units in Ife Central and 11 registration points while election materials were already available to carry out the exercise successfully.
Ayilara who explained that there would be restriction of movement between 8:00am and 4:00pm in the affected area and promised people of Osun and Nigeria at large of a free, fair and credible election.
Meantime, Governor Rauf Aregbesola yesterday inaugurated three different committees saddled with the task of proper take-off of the newly created councils in the state.
At the ceremony, he described human beings as the basic instrument of development, considering humans’ ability to think, conceive ideas and the engagement in economic production.
The Committees were Asset and Liability Sharing, Boundary Adjustment and Take-Off for Local Governments and the newly created Local Council Development Areas, Area Offices and Administrative Offices in the state.
Justice Kudirat Akano is to chair a seven-man committee on Asset and Liability Sharing, while Justice Akinwale Oladimeji will head that of Boundary Adjustment Committee while former Executive Secretary of Ilesa East Local Government, Mr. Lanre Balogun, will head that of Take-Off Committee.
