PORT HARCOURT – Environmental and Human Right Activist, Mrs Annkio Briggs has said that the soldiers who died in Rivers State, yesterday, were not killed in Abonnema town in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Recall that, Thursday, three soldiers, including a Major in the Nigerian Army were allegedly ambushed by unidentified hoodlums, few days to Saturday’s legislative rerun elections.
Speaking on this development that has led to anxiety in the area, Briggs stated that the soldiers did not die in the reported area of the LGA.
Briggs who distanced Abonnema from the incident, revealed that the three soldiers were killed in the creeks.
She condemned the violence against the military by an unidentified group of persons, adding that such was ugly and painful.
“The soldiers were not killed in Abonnema town. What ever happened, happened in the creeks.”
“However we condemn the killing of the military men at this time”, she said.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has described the incident as s dastardly development.
Reacting, the Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Chris Finebone who condemned the killings fingered the Governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike and his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Finebone said, “Gov Wike said the killings in Rivers State were amongst cult groups. Now, were the Major of the Nigerian Army and the other soldiers killed cult members?”
“Wike and his evil deeds will soon be exposed,” he added.
The Rivers State Government also accused the APC of being behind the killings of the soldiers.
Responding, the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Dr. Agustin Tam-George said, “The APC is responsible for their death. The soldiers were killed by the APC in order to blackmail the PDP and the Rivers State Government.”
