Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, yesterday, said their members had been pushed to the wall by the policies and actions of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, and warned, “Enough is enough”.

Nigerians elected President Muhammadu Buhari on his promise to lead the charge to eliminate corruption in public life, and move to bring those who “looted” the national treasury to book. This is a herculean obligation for which the current administration must be supported and given both cooperation and the benefit of doubt by the public. I am a supporter of this particular goal of the administration, and I have no doubts at all that a majority of Nigerians want the books opened and proper sanction meted on those who may be found culpable.

I n this interview, last week, Rotimi Amaechi, a former  governor of Rivers State and now Transport  Minister, bared his mind on the crisis rocking the state and why peace has continued to be elusive.  Amaechi insisted that the incumbent state governor, Nyesom Wike, should tone down his rhetoric on violence, to bring down tension in the state while asking him to also distance himself from ex-militants, to send a clear message that those engaging in violence will not go unpunished. YESTERDAY’S re-run elections for some state and National Assembly seats in Rivers State lived up to pre-election fears. There were incidences of violence, electoral malpractices, moves and counter moves by the leading parties to outwit one another.

I want to also commend you on the onerous task of trying to rid our country of corrupt elements who have, no doubt held down our country from witnessing real development since independence almost 56 years ago.
