Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have directed the state Commissioner for Education to investigate and prosecute the alleged indiscipline act of some teachers of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin.
Hon. Victor Akande who represents Ojo Constituency I described the ugly incident as an act of indiscipline because teachers are supposed to be a role models to their students and portray moral, cultural and educative excellence to the students but they turned out to be hooligans by stabbing themselves during an argument within the school premises.
“It was sad news for me to see the video of fighting teachers on the internet; these teachers are supposed to be an epitome of morality to the students and the public, but instead they exhibited act of hooliganism,” he stated
Contributing, Hon. Funmilayo Tejuoso said if they are found culpable, they deserve to be relieved of their appointment and subsequently banned from the teaching profession, not only in the state but also in the country, because teachers are there not only to teach the students, but also to portray moral attitude, good conduct and self-discipline to the pupils.
Members expressed their displeasure on the development, adding that appropriate punishment should be meted out on them to serve as deterrent to others. The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa therefore, called on the Commissioner for Education to investigate the matter thoroughly and penalize those found guilty.
