Artists have taken paintings to a level beyond books, woods and boards to painting on human bodies. Paintings on human bodies, called body paintings, is a form of body art and is usually done, by professional artists, on naked or nude bodies of, especially ladies, often, supermodels.
Unlike the common deeper tattoos that last several months or years, body paintings last just for few hours, at most, days depending on the body chemistry of the lady, hence, it is sometimes referred to as Temporary Tattoos.
Body painting is done for several reasons including being a method of gaining attention in political protests. However, it is oftentimes done for the sheer purpose of aesthetics, appreciating art in its new form. It is equally done to underscores the creative prowess of an artist especially in recreating and blending natural surroundings on the human skin. Body painting is also done for commercial purposes as advertisers and designers sometimes sought for ideas from professional body paint or makeup artists before creating some ads.

With painstaking details and infallible similitude, the naked bodies of those painted are made to look as though the models were wearing the simulated idea, object or things. Some of the make-believe styles includes painting the models to look as if they were wearing swimsuits, jeans, wedding dresses or sports jerseys. Others styles are painting animals and things like butterflies, flowers, trees on the bodies of the models.
