Security man docked over alleged rape, threat to life

Lagos—A 52-year-old security man, Friday Ekanem-Ekam, has been arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 11-year-old girl (names withheld) and also threatening to eliminate the victim’s mother.

The defendant is facing a three-count charge bordering on defilement and threat to life preferred against him by the police.

The defendant, who resides at 8, Grace Anjous Street, Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos, was docked before Magistrate B. B. Balogun.

The prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, told the court that the incident took place between December 2013 and November 6, 2015.

He said the defendant unlawfully and indecently dealt with the victim by inserting his fingers into her anus.

Feddy said the defendant had in 2013, called the little girl who was nine years old at the time, under the pretext of sending her on an errand only to take her in and raped her and, thereafter, warned her not to mention it to anyone, including her mother.

He also alleged that in 2014, the security man raped her again and also threatened her not to tell anybody until this year when he  raped her again and the mother got to know about it and then went to report to the police.

The prosecutor said the suspect called the victim’s mother on his phone, and threatened to kill her if she refused to withdraw the case against him from the police.

When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

However, Magistrate Balogun  granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till January 21, 2016.
