Customers lament racketeering in pre-paid meter installation

Electricity consumers ave raised an alarm over the racketeering involving officers engaged in the installation of pre-paid meters.

Vanguard gathered that some customers have been asked to pay over N10,000 to activate the meters and also to replace them with the old ones.

Specifically, consumers along Okota, Ago, Awodi-Ora, said there wass high rate of irregularities in the metering scheme supposedly intended to ease the plights of the masses after much complaints against estimated billing system.

Mr. Chima Obi, a resident of Okota, said: “We have been forced to pay N2000 each from every flat to be metered, otherwise you would be disconnected. It was never an option for us because we were told to pay or be disconnected.”
